Digital Cable and HDCP copy protection .. Taste of the future
As I'm waiting for tech support from my cable company
 ....1st problem -> Tv is not getting any signal from my digital cable box. Resolution -> Unplug cable box, let cool down, plug back in, reboot. 2nd problem -> "Warning Message" My tv does not support HDCP (High Def Copy Protection) please hook up box via component cables.... I'm watching an "analog" station pumped through my "digital" cable box. Note: My HDtv does not support HDCP.. my 1 year old HDTV.. Reason: I have a DVI connector, not an HDMI connector. (Two way to hook up HD content DVI, and HDMI.. only HDMI connector looks Aka call tech support, stump the level 1 tech support "tv has an HDPC? error", get the error message strait with her... put on hold... (talks to supervisor) ... we need a tech to take a look at it... is Monday 1~5 ish good for you... (hmm eat up my personal time waiting for to take off work for a service call ... sure)My resolution will be (when the tech comes out and hunch tells me my cable box glitched..) drop digtial cable for 5 stations we don't watch... and hold out till I'm forced to go ditial 2009 I think... Welcome to the "taste" of the future, I'm pretty sure this is a glitch but when cable companies actually turn this feature on Word of advise - when you buy a new HDTV you want the following features: a) 1080p support - 1080i is lower quality b) at least an HDMI connector (you may want more then one, 1-cable, 2-xbox360/ps3, 2-blueray/hddvd player etc - they all want to be hooked up this way )c) support HDCP I would NOT by a tv that does not support these feature Last edited by EternalTempest; May 11, 2006 at 02:03 AM // 02:03.. |
